OPERATION ITCH

where progressives network

I'm thinking of throwing an election night party. Not that I have many friends in my new town, it'll probably be just me and the people that live with me.

But an awesome theme struck me, and I figure I should run with it. And share it with all of you.

I'm going to celebrate a day in which it's likely that more people turn out to vote than ever before with a zombie movie marathon. That's right, zombies are my chosen symbol for this election.

George Romero (an awesome guy who made some movies) has been accused of using the horror movie platform to showcase his views on the Cold War. Zombies, some alledge, symbolized godless commies in the movie Night of the Living Dead... the comparison isn't a stretch, nor is it's obvious opposite. Zombies do kinda' represent blind group cohesion, thoughtlessly following the crowd. What better, in a house of people with no party allegiance, to celebrate a night that will possibly show an unprecedented amount of people following the crowd and "picking the lesser of two evils"?

Besides, wouldn't you rather be scared of zombies for a night than the prospects of a McBama or OCain presidency?

I just want to write a clever zombie story that would use zombies as a symbol for the current state of affairs we are faced with... kinda' like what Romero did. Sadly, I have not had that little spark of inspiration. So I'll throw a party using zombies as a symbol for mindless allegiance to the two party system...

I did write a short zombie story a while back though.

Steal the theme and throw your own election night parties. Or, better yet, throw it on Halloween and send a warning about mindless allegiance to all of your friends who are thinking of voting for a candidate they do not agree with.

im to young to vote >=(

But not too young to follow the issues and the election and encourage your friends to do the same. Following things now will help educate you about the system to prepare yourself for when you come of age. You will be in a situation better suited to learning stances, knowing your own stance, and voting according to your best interests.

We could make it an online party. Everyone renting a few good zombie flicks (the classic "Night of the Living Dead" would be required), tossing it on the tube and then hanging out in the chatroom and discussing what we'd do in the event of hoards of zombies attacking our towns.

The chat room doesn't get enough use. We should change that.
