Barack Obama is speaking in Kansas City later this week, and I'm going to attend this event more out of curiosity than anything else. Anyone have any good questions that I can ask when it comes time for the open microphone?
I was thinking something along the lines of "Considering that the Patriot Act is one of the most openly defiant of the rights provided by our constitution than any other piece of legislature, why did you vote in favor of it?"
Or maybe "As a senator amidst the Democratic majority both in the house and senate, would you agree that impeaching the greatest war criminal and most impeachable president of all time is off of the table?"
How about, "considering that you were a Harvard Law professor, explain how hunting down and killing Osama Bin Laden, as you claimed you would do as president, fits into constitutional law." I'd really like him to answer this question. He must have forgotten about the right to a trial. Oh yeah that's right, the FBI doesn't have any evidence linking Bin Laden to 9/11. Maybe that's why they don't want him to have a trial; they'd have to produce evidence to convict him. Regardless, with or without evidence, you can't hunt someone down and kill him or her. This is what we call premeditated murder. BTW I don't remember the section of the constitution that says you can declare someone an enemy combatant and exclude him from the law. Maybe Barack could shed some light on that one too.
How about asking why his plan to fix health care doesn't actually fix anything seeing as how it continues to put insurance companies before patients and doctors. Why, since it has been proven to work elsewhere, doesn't he support a single-payer health care system? If the senate and house both passed HR676 or similar legislation, would he sign it into law?
That's one thing I'd really like to see him have to justify his position on.
I like "Considering your recent anti-civil liberties actions, why would any self-respecting American vote for you for President, without the fear that more restrictive legislation like the PATRIOT Act and clandestine programs like the NSA's domestic spying would be even more common under your regime?" Well, nothing against any of you who might be voting Obama. *Libertarian*
