The documentary "Redemption" will be directed by Jesse Vigilante and John Stephan, edited by Ian Weaver, and possibly produced by Alex Backus, with an additional KU filmworks crew to do sound and lighting. We're still in pre-production, but could start filming as early as next week. The following is a brief introduction to the upcoming film, and we'll keep you updated on our progress.
REDEMPTION:
A self-proclaimed atheist gives the religious community a chance to prove themselves.
Not many atheists would welcome the attempts of local religious leaders to convert them, but this time, not only do I welcome them, I’m going around asking for them. In the upcoming documentary “Redemption”, I’ll be speaking with representatives from different religions, spiritualities and denominations, formally challenging them to convince me that what they have to say is the truth.
I’m going into this with an open mind, but I’m certainly not going into it blindfolded. I have no idea what the outcome will be. While I find it highly unlikely that I will be converted, I give my word that I will honesty consider each and every one of the arguments brought before me, and I will reject them only on a basis of reasoning and critical thinking.
I have never tried to conceal my disdain of religion. I’ve been a very vocal and open skeptic of the super-natural, often warning others of the harmful affects that organized religion has on society. But in response to all of the claims that it takes faith to be an atheist, or that atheists are the ones that are closed minded, or that atheists are simply refuting the doctrines of religions simply to be rebellious and controversial, I would like to do something that no religious person would ever do; actually consider my opposition.
The title “Redemption” has a double meaning. This is an opportunity for you, organized religion. Not only is it an opportunity for you to save my soul from certain damnation and eternal hell-fire while possibly increasing your demographic by at least one, but it is also an opportunity to redeem yourselves in an increasingly skeptical society.
So, this is an open challenge to all religions, spiritualities, and super-naturalists.
CONVINCE ME.
