It doesn't matter what we think the government should do, or how it should be organized, or how we vote. It doesn't matter what we want, or how we go about letting the government know what we want, except when enough people demand a certain action. Sometimes even that doesn't matter, as was demonstrated by the bailout of banks.

We've got to get more members in here, and we've got to join with existing groups that are trying to do the things we support.

Corporate personhood is the number one obstacle to citizens having a say in government.

Trudy, I agree mostly, but I would take it a step further, we should have a system that once candidates are chosen, (we would need a cap on how many candidates are allowed into the finals so to speak) then they are all given the same amount , paid for by the people to campaign, and that is it, no more campaign funds allowed, equal across the board and voted by popular vote only. It would be money well spent. Ron Paul said that Obama's campaign went at least 700 million dollars. I have been pushing for this for 35 years as well. The money we would spend on this is nothing compared to what we have lost through corruption in government. Thanks for keeping up the fight!

Daniel, I think the top of your list should be removing the legal status of individual from corporations, which gives them the right to "free speech" which enables them to contribute to political campaigns as if they were citizens. That is the root of their power.

I agree with the rest of your post completely, and have been trying for about 40 years to get people off the couch. I'll never give up.

First,We need to be investigating and prosecuting corruption in our government and making some heads roll in a from the top down way, second step, a movement towards ending unethical corporations from controlling the market, the government, and us. This could be done with large number boycotts and supporting businesses that are ethical and environmentally conscious at the same time. Third, insist on separation of Church and State, in every department and every way. Fourth , stop special interest from gaining controls in government, no lobbies, no private campaign funds etc. Fifth, end the 2 party control, electoral system of voting, and demand voting for every change or major move we make as a country. Sixth, grass roots education of the public on the importance of individual awareness and action, get people of the couch and involved.
Just a few ideas and not in the order I presented here necessarily. People have to really believe that it is us, the public that owns the government in this country, not the other way around.
